Anti-dumping
and Countervailing Duty Investigations Against Chinese
Extruders
On March 31, 2010, US aluminum extruders and United
Steelworkers union filed anti-dumping (AD) and
countervailing duty (CVD) petitions against Chinese
extruders. With the aid of skilled legal council, the mill
that supplies us (New Zhongya Aluminum) was accepted as a
voluntary separate rate respondent in the countervailing
duty case and a mandatory collapsed rate respondent in the
anti-dumping case.
On August 30, the Department of Commerce (DOC) released
preliminary findings in the CVD case. The preliminary
separate rate duty assessed New Zhongya Aluminum was 10.37%.
The rate for all other Chinese extruders, except for one
other was set at 137.65%.
The AD preliminary determination was released on October 27,
2010. Zhongya was assessed as a mandatory respondent with a
collapsed rate of 59%+, which was subsequently lowered to
32.04%, due to a DOC clerical error. All other Chinese
extruders were dropped to a rate of 33.18%.
DOC sent representatives to the Zhongya factory and
headquarters in December of 2010 for verification purposes.
The process went smoothly and we are currently awaiting the
final CVD & AD determinations which are expected to be
published on March 29, 2011. We appreciate all the support
we have received from our customers and we remain hopeful
for a fair outcome.
Ride for
Ryan - Coming Soon!
April 30 - May 2, 2011 - Alumizona is gearing up in
anticipation of the 8th annual Ride for Ryan Motorcycle
Rally this spring. The ride is held in memoriam of Ryan
Devereaux who was killed in a drunk driving incident in
2003. The ride aims to bring awareness to the plight of
drunk driving through education and fundraising.
This year’s ride begins and ends in Prescott, AZ. The ride
features plenty of twists and turns through the Grand Canyon
area.
We look forward to the camaraderie with the fellow
participants, organizers, and supporters of this year’s
ride!
